What?! I am a mom now?? |
Before I had my baby daughter, I never had been much around little kids. I had only held a baby once, and I did not feel comfortable at all. I found out I was pregnant right before my husband left for another tour of duty to the Middle-East. While my husband was gone, I had to continue the daily chores - and sometimes I kind of forgot I was pregnant. I kept mowing the lawn, lifting heavy stuff and worst of all moving furniture around (I was sufferening from the notorious nest building syndrome big time!). |
It came as no surprise that I had pre-term labor at 7 months. I had to lay flat for one month, and spent Christmas alone on a mattress on the livingroom floor. A few weeks later my husband came back home, and 10 days later our beautiful baby daughter was born. Since I had no experience with babies, I was a bit nervous at first. But I was amazed how quickly I adjusted to motherhood. It is a natural thing! My husband and I decided to raise our daughter bilingual. We want our daughter to be proud of both her American and European heritage. But how do you raise a child bilingual? What is the best approach? How do you stay in touch with both families, each living more than 8 hours away? How do you survive a plane trip without losing it? My husband and I learned through trial and error. Some things worked, some things didn't work. If you are planning to raise your child bilingual, or you are planning to travel with a baby or toddler soon, or perhaps you are looking for ways to stay in touch with family, you will definitely find some useful tips on the following pages.
