Wait! There's More! |
The Do's: - Check the USCIS website for updates and read ALL the instructions from A to Z. - Check your case status online and sign up for email updates (letters do get lost in the mail!). - If you move, file the change of address form AR-11 online at USCIS within 10 days. Also, you need to update your information for EVERY single pending case. - Even if you do not plan to travel abroad, apply for an advance parole document. If there is a family emergency, you will have one less thing to worry about. - Keep a log of all your actions: who, what, where, when. If a letter or document gets lost in the mail, this information can be very valuable. - Always mail your documents/applications overnight. You spent so much time and money completing your application, you want to make sure it reaches its final destination. The Don'ts: - Do not make any wedding arrangements until you get your Fiancee K-1 visa. - Do not make any international travel arrangements until your advance parole document has been approved. - Be aware of the USCIS processing times. They are a mere indicator, not a truth written in stone. If the U.S. immigration policy changes or the application fees increase, the number of applications also increase... and eventually all this results in longer processing times. |
The U.S. immigration policy changes so rapidly, my case may no longer be totally representative. So I want to spare you the details, and instead, share some general but nevertheless valuable tips. |
